-->I
had a 5 day race camp at the Chill Factore last week and i learnt so much that
my coaches think i have made alot of improvements and think i am a lot better
then before the camp.
The first 2 days Alain Baxter was once again with
us and we have a good laugh and he taught me things I didn't know. I am pleased
he came along again, because he has the experience and knows what he's talking
about. Also he had a run in the course with my shin guards and poles. He was
fast but some thought i was faster. :-)
When Alain left we had good
coaching from the original coach Dean. I learnt to read a course better that i
would have before the camp, and that will help alot in the furute of my racing
carrier.
On the last day we had a race with everyone who came to the camp
and that was great fun, i read the course perfectly and won the race by 2.14
seconds which is a huge amount of time in ski racing.
Hope my race at
castleford will be a enjoyable one.
My race at the Chill Factore was not a dissapointment but not what i
expected.
Day 1 I thought it would be a good day for
racing. On my first run i came 3rd in my age and that put me down. On my
second run i was 3rd still and that was very displeasing to me. I knew what i
had done wrong and hoped to ammend it the next day.
Day 2 First
run was great i had gone full throttle down the corse and was in 2nd place by
0.03 !! However on my second run i misread the course and went too round
around the gates,
which made
me loose time and put me down to 3rd place
again.
I still got podium places, trophies and the points needed to make
overall winner.
I now know
what ingredients i need to win my race at castleford, and this time i
will.
A few weeks ago - July 24th - we did a fund raiser that earned me £135 which was
great.
At Nancys birthday party she offered for me to make Mojitos, and i
learnt how to make them in 5 minutes. It was great fun, even though i cut my
finger and had to wear a plaster while making the Mojitos. However it was a
good night and hope to have another like it.
There was
also a Raffle which consisted of lost of small prizes to be won and out of that
i earned £30.
Hello Everyone ,I have a Job now, Decorating all sorts of places and it's great fun being on the side of scaffolding, a bit high up but I'm getting used to it. I get paid a good amount for what i do, and it's good for my arm strength as well.
There is a Race this weekend, The British Indoor Grand Prix Series, 7th - 8th August at the Chill Factore.
This is a very big race for me as II want to win on both days.In the past I have won on one day and then have mistakes on the other. I have spoken to my performance coach and we have had a good chat about how I can going to win both days.
I will update everyone on my results of this race.
This week I had a race camp at the Chillfactore and it was great, Alain Baxter came along again. Day 1 - Monday 26th July Had a great day, We did some different exercises with Alain, which were great and hope to do again. Fitness was good as well. We did lunges and jogging with medicine balls, it was hard but fun. :-)
Day 2 - Tuesday 27th July We pretty much did the same things but I got better, at least I felt I did. I hurt from Mondays fitness session and we didn't do fitness this day. Instead we did psychology session which was okay but I have my own performance coach and I think I respond a lot better to her. At lunch time i had a photo shoot with chill factor's mascot and Alain Baxter which was good. So those pictures will probably be on the Chillfactore website.
Before the photo shoot however, Granada TV camera man cane to interview me and Alain. I felt good about what said on the interview and the camera man said I was a natural. Alain had his interview and his went on TV, along with a run down the ski course of mine and my name being mentioned, any my Atomic jacket in the camera, not my face though. :-(
Day 3 - Wednesday 28th July Alain was gone but we had my original coach back which was good and it was a fun day and at the end of it we had fitness. I was hurting all over but when I got into it I felt it was easy. At the end of fitness a few of us had a race and I won by a fair margin because I was not very tired after that session.
Overall It was a great session and i can't wait till the next one for 5 days.
The first thing I thought on
that bright Saturday morning was I knew that I would win this race as I have
done many times before. And that is exactly what i did.
First and
Second Gold First of all I was helping set the course with my coach Dean. After my first run down the slope, I realised I had skied a time 2.32 seconds faster than second place and after the 2nd
race I was in the lead by 2.54 Seconds, it was an easy win. I won
overall and in my age group.
Third Gold Duel Slalom is
a fun race, but is one thing I have rarely won, in fact just ONCE before. In
the final and I raced a younger racer, around 10/11 years old. My coach said to
me that I would win this so he told me to give the youngster a 3 gate head
start. In the end he beat me but we all knew who was going to win so I got
the gold. We both enjoyed the challenge given.
Until next race - enjoy
the summer, rain or shine. :-) Eliya

The weekend
3rd - 4th July, I raced at Hemel Hempstead.
Day one. I Was at the
top of the slope ready for my first run and i had enjoyed looking through
the course. As i was 4th person to ski down, i didn't have loads of time so i
made the most of what i had at the top. My first run was good except i got
slightly distracted by the commentator, but was able to regain concentration and
ski to 1st place.
Second run, i hit a gate with my ski, lost all balance
and almost fell in the slushy conditions ,however ,i regained control and tried my
hardest to finish in a great time and still managed a 4th place in my
category.
Day two. I had been helping my mum out a lot as she was very
sick with a severe bout of peptic ulcer (diagnosed and treated in hospital later
that evening), this meant i had to get a lift to the Race. At the top of the
slope, i thought that i would race for my mum today. As i got to the top of
the slope the women had just finished so i had to do all my warm-ups quickly
which was not good. I arrived in to the start gate, pushed of but on my
first push into the next gate I had an awful pain, the most pain I've
ever experienced. I stopped with agony because i thought i had dislocated
my shoulder, 2 members of the ski crew came to help me. Luckily my arm was
not dislocated. I asked if i could have a re-run but i was not allowed becuase
your own injuries are your own mistake. However i got a run at the end of
everybody for my own benefit and also on my second run after everybody. If
the runs had counted to the results, i would have been 1st in my category
and 5th overall !!!
We came back on Monday 5th July and went to a
Osteopath and he said my left pectoral to my shoulder was not strong enough,
so he told me to do a good bunch of exercises and i an now doing more than he
said to do, just for my own strength for skiing.
Next race 10th July
Chill Factore. Eliya Beelaert-Rubin
This weekend was aBLASTfor theBEAST(my new nickname).
First day:
On
my first run I skied well and as i have done for the last 2 months. I came 1st
in my age group and 5th overall which was brilliant considering the quality of
skiers. My second run was different, something new happened. I unleashed
the beast for the first 2/3 of the run and unfortunately messed up, however, I
stayed in and managed a 5th place in my age group. I was still happy because I now
knew that i had unleashed the untapped potential that people said I had and
were waiting for.
My second day: Sunday SSE Grand Prix 3. I
started my first run, a course i knew completely. I had revised it in my head and
visualised myself skiing it over and over again. At the end of the first run
I was 1st in my age group and 9th overall. I felt this was a great achievement because
there were other competitors from the English, Welsh, Scottish and British teams there. In the second run I beat the previous time, posting the 4th fastest in that run. I came 1st in my age and 5th overall . The glass medal i received is
one of my favourites. I feel I have reached another level and feel more
confident.
Next
race on 3rd July, I hope to win that too. Eliya
Beelaert-Rubin
This weekend i went to Braehead/Glasgow in Scotland and
went to race at 3rd and 4th races of the Grand Prix
Series.
I
stayed at a friends house near the ski slope and it was a very nice area off
Great Western Street.
On the first day (Saturday 5th June) i was second
on my first and second runs just behind Paul Henderson, in JUNIOR 1, and took
SILVER. I felt I had 2 good decent runs, however i think i could have
puched myself even more. I did come 4th overall, and that very good and the
highest so far.
So on the second day i had a great first run, i was in
second again, this time only by 0.09 of a second and on my second run i
came first !!!!! Finishing the day of with a great second run and taking
my second GOLD trophie for that weekend.
I came back home to my
mums birthday barbeque and had a great dinner.
During the half term i had a 3 day race camp at the chill
factore. And for the first 2 days we worked again with Alain
Baxtor.
As the
first day went by, I improved and all the new techniques that alain had given to the race team, were very
useful. I knew that i was getting better that day and that i couldn't wait
until the next day with alain. I had fitness with my coach gareth and that
was intense but very good. I had a good laugh and that completed my
day.
The next day of the race camp, we had a new exercise called don't
touch, which is where you dont hit the gates u go round them wider. This ment
that when we came to hit the gates we would feel closer to them. Then fitness
came and we were skiing up the slope with a medicane ball (5kg) above
us (just me and my coach - it was too hard for the others) and then we were
doing some exercises, with our poles and skis up the slope.
The third and
final day, alain had gone we had had a great time with him and he will be at the
next camp in July. So on the third daywe did a quite hard course and we were
working on forward movement in the turn which is what i needed to become
faster.
I had a great 3 days training at the chill factore and i can't
wait until the next race camp.
On
Sunday 16th May i had training from 7am - 9am as usual.
I had a good
training session, my coaches were giving good feedback, UNTIL the third to
last run.
At the Verticale (a gate then 2 double gates)- i got my pole
stuck in between my ski and
almost fell, but i kept my self steady and finished the run
unexpectedly.
At the run after however, i came accross the Verticale
and this time my outside ski got caught in between the second double gate and i
fell hard. Both of my skis came off - which rarely happens -, i slid my back
into the next gate, but i felt completely fine. A cople of Skiers from the
British team checked if I was fine, and said 'spectalular fall !'. A bit numb,
and hot, i carried on skiing cause i lost abit of confidence after the fall, so
i needed to do 1 more run to regain my confidence.
When i came in to get changed,
i noticed my back was stinging and that's when i realised that was my lower
back and one side was really raw and scratched, not bleeding very red and
stingy.
Today (monday 17th May) my back has been hurting when i walk and
sit down but it will be better soon, dont worry guys, it's nothing
major.
This
weekend,8th - 9th
Mayi raced at The
British Indoor Grand Prix Series, Race 1 and 2, in Milton
Keynes.
Day
1
Drove down at 5:00 in the
morning with my mum.
With a lot more points under my
belt - I was 22nd to go down. On my first run i came1stin my age group and3rdoverall !!! , and i was more
than very pleased with my result. On my second run, i made a few small
mistakes, but remained in1stin my age andtook GOLD (a lovely plate
!!!) but dropped to 6th place overall, still very good tho
!
After that i went to back to the
hotel, had steak (to beef up :-) , watched a film, and waxed my skis for the
next day.
Day 2
I was 19th to go
down. My first run i was in1stin my age and5thoverall, and i was only 0.07 of
3rd place overall. However on my second run i made a big mistake going over a
roller half way, i recovered well and was pleased i stayed in, but had to push
the rest of the way. I ended 4th in my age group. Not great, but not bad
under the circumstances.
I now am going to train my
hardest and i am going to win the rest of my races. My next race is on12th Juneat the Chill Factore. This
will be the second race of the Chill Factore series.
I hope to do well
with everyones support to me.

24th April - at The English Indoor Championships - I skied out
of my first run. This
means I was out of the race. I still did the second run for practice, tried
very hard, but had to hike back up to a gate i just missed... a bad day indeed.
:-(
25th April - I took Gold at the British Indoor Championships,
first in my age group - Junior 1 !!! :-) This has catapulted me into being
the fastest skier in my category in Britain right now. I came fifth overall.
I was very pleased with my result becuase this was my aim so I couldn't
stop smiling.I won a
glass trophie which i love. There are pictures of me winning. If you would
like to see then download attachments, and my blog will be updated
soon.
I kept thinking positive for each run and it worked. I made no
mistakes in my runs today and proved i can be the best.
I have another
race on the 8th and 9th of May at Milton Keynes, I hope to win that race as
well. :-)

Thanks to all
my supporters and sponsers for getting me this far.
In my two weeks I did 4 races and took 3 Gold and 1 Vermeil
!!!
The first medal i got was Vermeil (between gold and
silver) in the GS in the 1st
week.
In the 2nd week I
took Gold in
Slalom
and 30 minutes after this race i came first in GS and
won a pair of brilliant off piste
skis, a trophy, salami, jumper,
coffee, cap, medal, wine and champagne. i was very pleased when i won all of
this. I also beat both forerunners!
:-)
My fourth medal was in GS on the last day- i got
gold and ended up on 6.72 points.
I was very
pleased with my results in the trip and can't wait until next seasons races.
Today at training i tried my new atomic 2d skis at chill
factore and was very pleased with them, I'm racing on the 24th and 25th April at
chill factore and will be competing to win.
April 7th, 2010 - I am now in my second week of training in
Flaine with my French coaches with whom I have already trained with for 2 weeks in
March.
1st week - I trained Monday to Saturday from 9-12,
worked my hardest and got better each day. I started on GS because I had to wait for my
bindings to arrive for my new Atomic SL D2 factory 155cm slalom ski's. The binding delivery missed me
by 2 hours back in Manchester!! J. When the bindings arrived we fitted them and
I skied on the ski's for 2 days and unfortunatley one snapped! The French coaches have fixed it for the
time being with a piece of metal at the tip.
Due to my unlucky turn with my own slalom
ski’s, I did a few runs and one slalom run on the course on Aksel Lund Svindal’s
Atomic Word Cup Ski’s !!!!!!!! JJJ I won Vermeil (between a gold and silver
medal) at the ‘Fleshe’ GS race with my Atomics GS D2 factory ski's, which are great!
On Sunday we had a days rest to recover our
muscles. I’m eating loads and loads
more than usual to keep my energy levels up and promote recovery.
We are in the tiniest flat you can imagine
with 4 of us. Then my mum arrived and it got even smaller. It’s been sunny and
I’m sporting a very tanned half of a face. Looks like I’ve stuck my face in
chocolate J.
2nd week - Monday – Ihad an off day, got stressed, as everyone does. Tuesday - I skied Slalom and did the course
in 28.57sec, the second fastest time. We also did Video Analysis and I’m working
on moving forward in the turn to generate speed. Today - I skied very well and felt my self improve a
lot in GS.
Two races tomorrow and one Friday. I look
forward and plan not to come away empty handed ! J I’m also working on my weekly exercises and
fundraising plans for next winter season with my mum.
After my 3rd alpine trip this year
- to Flaine, Le Houches Villars and Gryon for 2 weeks, I managed to progress a
lot in the time i had to train which was 4 days and 1 day of free skiing. My new
French coaches in Flaine (my new training resort) told me i was doing very good
and i should try to get on the British team if i wasn't already on it,
especially in Slalom, my best discipline.
I got 4 out
of 5 possible medals !
Gold -
The Fleshè race in GS I was starting number 89 and finishing number 1 overall
out of 120 people, this race was in Flaine, France. That race was an easy one, i
won it by 2.53 seconds and it also allows me to race in
France.
Silver - The British Inter Schools Championships race in
Slalom I started number 140 and finished number 2 overall, this race was in Les
Houches, France. I was using Dynastar skis which i really didn't like and had
only trained on for 1 hour, but i still did very good on
them.
Silver - The Aiglon College race in Slalom I was starting
number 85 and finishing number 2 overall, this race was in Gryon, Switzerland.
That was a fun race the first run i was 1st and second run i made a mistake and
i came 2nd, i was still happy with my result.
Bronze - The British
inter Schools Championships race in GS i started number 2 and finished number 3
overall, this race was in Les Houches, France. I was very lucky to start number
2. After my first run i was 2nd and then hip slid on my second run and came
3rd
I
would like to get more alpine training this year, and race all
next year - so i can come in strong and win most races. The Flaine coaches are
very very good. So, instead of the doing British and Scottish Championship races
in Meribel, I am planning to go Flaine for another two weeks training. This will
be the fourth trip this year, and if you were able to support
me further this season that would be so
helpful.
